Wavelength is focused on building culture that will deliver more value at less expense while developing Wing member's confidence, competence, and ability to work with others.
Making sure we are constantly learning means we must constantly experiment and measure - are therefore constantly hold one another accountable.
The outcome - failure or success - is simply a measurable data point that enables us to continue to produce software we are proud of.
We avoid the trap of talking about ideas and building extensive plans that go beyond our current knowledge. We act, measure, learn, repeat.
Our teams are fully-kitted with the physical needs, physiological needs, love and belonging needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs required to be successful.
We want to have strong opinion loosely held. Measurable data will drive our decisions.
We want to be driven by data and have trust internally and externally. How we do accomplish? We are transparent with our processes, learning, practices, next steps, and future goals.
As opposed to being a software factory, Wavelength drives different areas of software creation. It explores to identify new software solutions, enables the execution of new software, and educates the 350 SWW workforce to make sure their software development principles adhere to modern standards.
Responsible for representing “the business” (in our case: the mission). Should be/grow into an expert in their product area. Responsible for managing the team's backlogs and for delivery of outcomes. Prioritizes work and is final determination if hypotheses were invalidated or validated.
The technical lead is a full-time software engineer who represents the engineering team in balanced team discussions. The Tech Lead is responsible for maintaining product, business and user context and sharing with technical team. The Tech Lead will be part of prioritization discussions and will advocate for priorities as needed (including technical debt).
Charged with being the voice of the user and empathy. Core focus on interaction design, user testing and experiment design. Depending on product, could also lead or support visual design and user research.
The engineering teams work, generally, in pairs to implement solutions that are hypothesized to solve user pain. The engineers work off a backlog owned by the Product Manager and are focused on delivering the outcomes intended with the simplest possible solution that remains viable.
